2024/03/24 - FIM Superbike World Championship 2024: Catalunya Round / Sunday - Superpole Race & Race 2

To the end of a long stay in Barcelona two top ten finishes

However, Dominique Aegerter was not entirely satisfied with tenth and ninth place in the second main race on Sunday afternoon.

Before the second race day of FIM Superbike World Championship’s visit to the Montmeló circuit in north-west Spain got underway, teams and riders were surprised by a change in the weather. After light rain in the morning, the track was wet at the time of the warm-up. As a result, the plans of Dominique Aegerter and his crew from the Italian GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team for this session were thrown out the window.

The track had dried out completely by the time Superpole race got started. Aegerter started from sixth on the grid and battled for a top-nine finish over the sprint distance. In a heroic battle with his team-mate Remy Gardner in the closing stages, Aegerter crossed the line behind the Australian rider in tenth place. A contact with another rider in the second race robbed him of all prospects of a good result early on. The 33-year-old Swiss rider was not overly satisfied with ninth place at the finish, as his pace would have been good enough for more.

After another one-month break, the series returns to racing action at the end of April with the third event in Assen, the Netherlands.

Grid position 6 / Superpole Race: P10 / Grid position 11 / Race 2: P9

"Sunday did not go quite as well as I would have liked. It started with a wet warm-up, which meant we could not try anything. The Superpole race was difficult. Nevertheless, I tried everything and gave it my all to get into the top nine. I had a great battle with Remy on the last lap, but unfortunately, I lost it. So, I had to start the second race from eleventh on the grid on the fourth row and shortly after the lights went out, I had a contact with another rider right after the start. That dropped me back to 15th place. In the end, I finished ninth. It was another top 10 result, which is certainly not bad, but we want more."

"After the incident on the first lap, it was not easy to overtake the riders in front of me and catch up. That is why I hope that we can start further ahead next time and have better first laps. If we can do that, then I think we are able to fight for a place in the top six, because we have the speed. I hope we can show that in Assen already and hopefully there will be a lot of fans there. But first of all, my thanks go to the team, our sponsors and everyone who always supports us and stands behind us."
