2018/11/18 - Moto2™ WM 2018: GP Valenciana / Race Report

#ValenciaGP: Conciliatory conclusion of a long season

#DA77: Conciliatory conclusion of a long season

Finishing Sunday’s last race in eleventh position, Dominique Aegerter managed a nice farewell to Kiefer Racing.

Saturday’s slightly improvements in terms of the weather situation was actually just temporary because as forecasted, rainy weather returned for race day in Valencia. Overnight rain showers already provided wet track conditions in the morning, when teams and riders went out on track during the warm up session for the final preparations ahead of the race.

At time of race start, the rain got heavier so, the riders had to deal with very difficult conditions this weekend once again. Dominique Aegerter, however, managed a rocket start from row eighth. After the first lap, the 28-year-old already has made up his way to the front of the midfield, racing just outside the top ten. Thanks to an adapted riding, he was able to safely get his position till the line as the track’s conditions got increasingly deteriorating.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Kiefer Racing, KTM), 11th - Championship position 17th (47 points):

"I actually made it already in the first lap to come from P24 on the starting to eleventh position. This first lap was really strong at all though the track’s conditions were enormously difficult from the beginning, it was such as slippery everywhere. There have been many crashes and I myself had also some big moments. In most cases, I lost the rear, but I managed to remain on the bike and finally I brought home this eleventh place in a safe way. We’ve always been in the points in the last four race and therefore, I think these results are a small but fine gift to the team and KTM after this difficult season. Next week, however, the new is season is set to get underway with a new challenge for me. I’m looking forward to my first test with MV Agusta Forward Racing aboard their all-new machine in Jerez. It looks to be an excited project to start. But before that, I want to say goodbye to Kiefer Racing and thank Jochen and all the team members for everything they did in the last two years for me. They always have made an incredible effort to prepare the best possible package form e. Thank you Kiefer Racing, it has been two beautiful years."
