2019/10/19 - Moto2™ WM 2019: GP Japan / QP Report

#JapanGP: "Was supposed to deliver something great"

For the Swiss Moto2™ star, changing weather may have cost a better starting position for round 16 of the season.

Conditions weather wise couldn’t have been more different on day two of practice in Japan. After a completely rainy third session this morning, the track dried out e for the qualifying sessions shortly after lunch time. While Dominique Aegerter gave a decent performance in the wet and had hopes for the time attack, the 29-year-old from Bern lacked the confidence to push harder to the limit.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (MV Agusta Temporary Forward, MV Agusta F2), Grid position 28th - 2´06.355 (2/6):

"I went very relaxed this weekend. The short holidays were good for me. The change in temperature between Vietnam and Japan wasn't easy at the beginning; we already had warmer weather here in Motegi. But apart from that the weekend started well again. Like in Buriram we had a strong FP1, which we closed in eleventh place. The gap was very small again. Of course, after this improvement hopes were high that things would go on like this. But in the second practice we changed our strategy a bit regarding the tyres and the set-up. Even though the result was less positive, on the other hand we got a lot of valuable information about the bike in order to improve it in many ways."

"As the forecasts said, it actually started raining last night although, FP3 this morning went quite well anyway. In the rain we were very competitive with our bike. So, we finished the session in the top-15 too. From that point of view, I had a good feeling for qualifying. But the track started to dry out slowly. At the end, the track’s conditions were fifty-fifty. That disturbed me a little because I couldn't build up a good feeling and I never had enough grip. So, it was difficult to improve and on Sunday, we have to start from the disappointing 28th position on the grid. Unfortunately, that's another bitter setback, as the feeling would have been much better to achieve more. I thought we could deliver something great this weekend. But that wasn't the case. Nevertheless, we won't give up, but will continue to work hard and hopefully luck will soon be on our side."
