2022/06/25 - FIM MotoE™ World Cup 2022: TT Assen / Saturday - Race 1

Brilliant race win on a sunny Saturday in Assen

Dominique Aegerter is also making his mark on the MotoE™ World Cup this year. Starting from the best grid position, however, he had to work hard in the first race of the weekend to be able to celebrate his third win of the season in the electric bike series after eight exhausting laps.

After changeable weather on Friday, the seventh race of the season took place in the best conditions on Saturday afternoon. Dominique Aegerter, who had taken his second pole position in a row this season on the previous day, lost a position on the way to the first corner and from then on, he was involved in fierce battles for positions in the leading group.

The race became an afternoon thriller in which the lead changed several times. Aegerter quickly recognized in which sections he was superior to his rivals for the top step on the podium and so it was no surprise that the 31-year-old Swiss launched the race-deciding attack in the infamous chicane, called Gert-Timmer-Bocht. At the line, the top three riders were separated by just 0.082 seconds.

Grid position: Pole / Race 1: Winner

"It was another exciting race, and I am very happy to win it. Unfortunately, I could not benefit from pole position because I dropped back a position or two at the start. But I was never worse than third. I knew that with only eight laps to go I always had to stay close with the leading group. Then there were wild battles with Granado, Casadei and Ferrari. With some it was not easy to prevail and there were several crazy passings. Since all bikes are the same, you had to risk a bit more one or the other time. In the end, I managed a super move on Casadei in the last chicane before the finish line, which helped me to win. But it was not only my performance, also my Dynavolt Intact GP team again provided me with a super bike with which I could fight for the podium and for the victory in the end, today. So, my thanks to them straight away."

"So far, the weekend is going according to plan. Tomorrow, we have another chance to extend our lead in the overall standings. Yesterday we had a little advantage because we had to go through Q1. Those five more laps in the dry were perhaps decisive for pole position. But today everyone was on the same level, and I can image they will continue to improve until tomorrow. But also, we have good data that will help us to make the same step. We will work hard so that we can play a role at the top in the second race again. Of course, it would be very nice if I could repeat my successful weekend in Supersport here two months ago in MotoE too."
