#AustralianGP: ENCOURAGING OPENING DAY AT THE ISLAND

#DA77: ENCOURAGING OPENING DAY IN DOWN UNDER

Despite changeable weather conditions and reduced practice times, Dominique Aegerter was satisfied with his start into the race weekend at picturesque Phillip Island.

However, day one’s action got underway with a big delay because shortly after the start of Moto3™ FP1, one rider’s bike lost a lot of oil on the track. The cleaning work was made difficult by some rain hitting the magnificent island circuit. As soon as the track cleaning was concluded, the organizers and the race direction issued a revised schedule for Friday. This contained a tight process and two shortened sessions.

After the long wait, Dominique Aegerter was one of the first to hit the track. The experienced Moto2™ rider quickly got used to these conditions and put in a 1´34.657 at the cool tarmac in South Australia after just a few laps. With this lap time, Aegerter closed Friday at the island in P14 of the combined practice times even though he missed to match his lap time from FP1 in the afternoon in good but windy conditions minimal.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Kiefer Racing), FP1: P9 - 1´34.657 (6/20) / FP2: P14 - 1´34.675 (4/20):

"This morning, we were again unlucky with the weather. By contrast, the conditions were much better in the afternoon. Nevertheless, it’s great fun to ride at Phillip Island, even if the strong winds are sometimes a bit disturbing. Apart from that, our start into the weekend was gratifying. After the first free sessions we are a bit closer to the front than at the last race weekends. Regarding tyre choice for the race, however, we were working with both options during each session today. But it is unusual that we didn’t really get an idea which is the better one for the race. Normally, this decision is done on Friday already. Therefore, we have to tak care about this tomorrow again. Hopefully the weather remains stable, so we will be able to do our workload in preparation for the race during tomorrow’s sessions. For qualifying, a starting position in the first five rows is the goal."
