#DA77: Challenging qualifying at the season’s finale
In changing track conditions, the Swiss rider wasn’t able to pull out his full potential during Saturday’s last qualifying practice of the year.
Partly sunshine in the early morning, a short rain shower before the third practice session and a drying track during qualifying, this were the most significant characteristics of day two in Valencia. The mixed conditions caused some worries regarding the bike’s setting because at first it was hardly to evaluate if and how quickly the track at Valencia’s stadium-like circuit will dry out. Dominique Aegerter also got on well firstly, but he couldn’t boost his pace during the decisive stage of the timed session.
#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Kiefer Racing, KTM), Grid position 24th - 1´36.976 (22/22):
"P24 on the starting grid, of course, doesn’t meet the expectations for my last race with the Kiefer team and KTM. After yesterday’s persistent heavy rain, the conditions couldn’t have been more changeable today. It was still wet in the morning, whereas the track dried out more and more in the afternoon. During qualifying, I got quickly to decent lap times and felt quite comfortable throughout the session. But as the track got more and more dry, I couldn’t top up my pace in contrast to the other competitors. Therefore, I quickly dropped down the order, slipping out from the top ten and even out from the top 20. Our starting position for the last race is not satisfactory at all, of course. However, lap times were again very close, with a half of a second, we would tackle Sunday’s race among the top guys. But I was at the limit with the package though. Nevertheless, we’re turning highly positive into race day although due to the weather forecast, difficult track conditions are to be expect. Anyway, whether it is damp or completely wet we definitely will give everything to conclude the season with more points."
