2019/10/26 - Moto2™ WM 2019: Australian GP / QP Report

#AustralianGP: Gymnastics on the bike

During Saturday’s qualifying, Dominique Aegerter showed an artistic performance when he just managed to catch a highsider.

On day two of practice, the weather in the south of Australia showed up at its most moody side. A rainy Friday morning was followed by a dry second session in the afternoon. The conditions on Saturday day were almost irregular due to extremely gusty winds. Dominique Aegerter didn't care much about that, because he and his crew were anxious to further develop the MV Agusta F2.

Attention: Tonight, the change to wintertime will take place. Start time for the third last Moto2™ race of the season is scheduled for 3:20am CET.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (MV Agusta Temporary Forward, MV Agusta F2), Grid position 23rd - 1´35.388 (7/8):

"After the beautiful days before, unfortunately, the weather changed exactly with beginning of the first practice session. FP1 therefore took place in rainy conditions, while the track was dry in for the second session. Both, during FP1 and FP2 we had to fight a bit in the fast corners. We lacked some corner speed there. On Saturday the wind was much stronger and more disturbing. But we could improve the bike a lot for Q1. I felt much more comfortable. But I'm less satisfied with the result. On Sunday I have to start again from far behing in eighth row on the starting grid. I don't like that at all. In the last minutes of the qualifying, however, it started again to rain slightly."

"Before that, however, I had a huge moment my second lap when I almost crashed by a huge highside. I did a handstand on the bike. During the landing I hit my foot. But it's nothing bad. In any case it was the "safe" of my life. I would give 100 points on the rating scale. Apart from that, I'm looking forward to the progress we've made with the bike and tomorrow's race. Hopefully the weather will improve. But no matter what it will be, we will do our best again."
