2019/10/27 - Moto2™ WM 2019: Australian GP / Race Report

#AustralianGP: Recovering from an eventful weekend and focussing on the next race

Dominique Aegerter had to give up all hopes for a scoring result in Sunday’s race after a crash through no fault of his own.

At the latest on Sunday the faces of all teams and riders brightened up again because the weather situation improved a lot last night. Therefore, the third last race of the season took place in good conditions. For Dominique Aegerter, however, his recovery from P23 on the starting grid ended shortly after halfway point of the distance, when a crashing rider didn’t have anything in his hands to avoid hitting the Swiss Moto2™ star.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (MV Agusta Temporary Forward, MV Agusta F2), P27:

"We were able to improve well in the warm-up. Our lap times were much faster than in the previous practice sessions. That's why I was confident for the race. Besides, the weather was much better again. I got off well at the line, but I still had trouble getting more towards the front so, riding just outside the top-15 was the final stop. Nevertheless, I think that points would have been possible in the end. But about ten laps before the end a rider crashed and slipped together with his bike into mine. That's why I crashed. It was in corner four, at a slow position. So, nothing bad happened and therefore I wanted to continue. After a few attempts my bike started again and I was able to re-join the race. However, a footrest and the rear brake were broken. Those were not the best conditions to set a decent pace though, I had to follow the pack in last position. This mishap was really bad luck."

"On the other hand, I'm happy for the whole team that Stefano (Manzo) brought the MV Agusta F2 into the top ten again. This underlines what is possible with this new project. Hopefully I can report about such a result from my side soon. After today's crash and the artistic interlude yesterday, my body feels everywhere a little sore. Therefore, I will relax a little over the next few days and try to recover. Then I’ve to focus on the next race in Malaysia."
