2020/08/09 - Moto2™ World Championship 2020: GP Ceske republiky / Race Report

#CzechGP: Educational weekend at Brno

However, the 29-year-old Swiss did not reach his personal goals in his comeback race as replacement for Jesko Raffin in the Dutch based NTS RW Racing GP team.

Due to steady improvements during both days of practice, Dominique Aegerter was confident to be able to maintain this progress also on race day in the Czech Republic. After an encouraging warm-up this morning, he went into the race with additionally spirits. But due to changed conditions at lunchtime it was not easy for him to build on the performance of the previous sessions.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (NTS RW Racing GP, NTS), P21:

"After we were able to improve continuously throughout the weekend, I would have hoped for a little more in the race. On previous days we gradually reduced the gap to the top guys. Unfortunately, we were not able to keep going in this respect in the race. I had expected more actually, as warm-up this morning went well too. I had a good feeling for my package during these 20 minutes. But in the race, I suffered a bit more on hard braking and with grip problems. By the way, I wanted to finish ahead of my teammate Bo Bendsneyder, and points would have been the minimum I wanted to achieve in this race. But not having been on a Moto2 bike for nine months, you can't make up for that gap in this incredibly competitive class during a weekend."

"It was a strange feeling at first on Friday, when I had to get used to this change in the first laps. Besides, the NTS bike is still a noticeably young chassis in this class. There are truly little data for the respective racetrack. Beyond that, it was not easy to find the right seating position because Jesko Raffin is a few centimetres taller than me. But the bike also has its strengths, such as good grip when standing up from the corners. I think the difference to Kalex or Speed Up is not excessively big. The NTS bike is certainly competitive, but with only two riders in the field it is certainly not easy to make more progress in a short time. But there is definitely room for further developments."

"Nevertheless, a lot of hard work is being put into this project. I was able to provide good feedback based on my experience. I think this has also been taken warmly. Of course, it would be incredibly nice if another opportunity arose to work with RW Racing at a Grand Prix soon. But that remains to be seen. Before that I wish Jesko all the best for his recovery and that he can come back soon. The same goes for Sandro Cortese, who was severely injured in a race crash at Portimao yesterday - all the best Sandro! Finally, a big thank you to NTS and RW Racing for entrusting me with their bikes this weekend."
