2020/08/15 - Moto2™ World Championship 2020: Motorrad GP von Österreich / QP Report

#AustrianGP: Further improvements on day two

Dominique Aegerter sums up the second day in Austria with mixed feelings.

At the end of the day, 29-year-old Dominique Aegerter was not completely satisfied with what he had achieved. On the one hand, the gap to the world's best Moto2™ pilots was further reduced, while on the other hand, the ambitious Swiss motorcycle racing professional had a hard time coming to terms with the fact that he had to tackle the fifth round of the season from the eighth row of the starting grid. Aegerter nevertheless set himself ambitious goals for the first race day in Styria.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (NTS RW Racing GP, NTS), Grid position 24th - 1´29.589:

"The second day of training has started with a pleasing improvement because things went very promising in this respect during this morning’s FP3. We were also able to improve a bit in qualifying, and we also managed to achieve our main goal as we have further reduced the gap to the top. But to end up with almost a second off the leaders is still too much in this incredibly balanced class. So, it is hardly surprising if we have to start from grid position 24 on Sunday. Unfortunately, the chances of success are therefore a little diminished."

"The NTS engineers as well as the entire team really give their all. It is unbelievably hard work coming from both sides. Also, from my side I try to provide valuable input with the most precise statements possible. But the latter is not always easy during a race weekend because everything has to go fast due to the short stops during a session. So, it is not easy for each side to interpret everything correctly immediately. But in Moto2 that has become an important factor, whereas on track it is also very important to use every millimetre and not make any mistakes. In this respect, I can put some of my MotoE experience to good use. The races there are truly short and in E-Pole everything has to fit in a single lap."

"But this Sunday we have 25 laps to go. Nevertheless, you cannot afford to make a mistake. Our goal is still clearly stated; we want to finish in the points. I want to achieve this not only for myself but also for the team. For their unbelievable effort they would have been long overdue. Hopefully, we can look forward to our first top 15 finish tomorrow, as well as taking another small step forward in the warm-up to be a little more competitive."
