For Dominique Aegerter, it was successful side trip to the season’s finale of the Moto2™ European Championship.

Dominique Aegerter's track record at his one-off appearance the Moto2 European Championship is impressive. After finishing third in Saturday's race, the 30-year-old Swiss rider fought doggedly for victory on Sunday in the second race of the weekend in equally fantastic weather. For one lap, the ambitious racer's plan seemed to become reality when he cold-bloodedly exploited a riding mistake made by the later race winner and newly crowned European Champion Yari Montella from Italy. After 19 exhausting laps, however, Aegerter had to settle for second place.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (LIQUI MOLY Intact SIC Junior Team, KALEX), P2:

"Even though it was not again enough to win, I am much more satisfied with today's race. My start was much better than yesterday, and I was able to catch up with Yari Montella immediately. But I had to work hard to keep up his pace. I took the most of myself and the bike in every lap, pushing to the limit at every time. With two laps to go, he made a small mistake, which I immediately used to my advantage. Suddenly victory was within reach, but on the straight I had a slight disadvantage against him and therefore it did not surprise me that he re-passed me at the beginning of the last lap. It is a pity that there was no chance to attack him in the last lap and this is something, that annoys me a little bit, because I went into this race with the attitude of wanting to win it. But as I said, I am satisfied with my performance and the second podium finish this weekend."

"However, these successes were not self-evident. A big thanks therefore goes to my crew, and of course to the whole Intact team, who built up this bike just for this weekend and prepared it perfectly for every exit. Thanks a lot, it was a lot of fun to work with all of you. Unless another miracle happens, my racing season 2020 is now over. But secretly I hope that I can maybe fill in as a substitute somewhere at the one or the other of the Grand Prix still to be held. But I have not heard anything yet. Nevertheless, I would really like to do so, especially since such a great circuit like it is at Portimao is for the first time in the calendar. Apart from that, there are still a few small things to be sorted out for next year, so that I can hopefully announce some good news about this soon. But first of all, I would like to thank the Intact team again for everything they have done for me this weekend and also in preparation to made it possible racing here. This season finale was a great experience that I was able to make."
