2021/04/30 - FIM MotoE™ World Cup: Gran Prémio de Espana / FP Report

Amongst the fastest despite practice crash

Dominique Aegerter finished the opening practice session of the first race of the season in second place, just short of the day's best time.

The season opener of the MotoE™ World Cup as part of the Gran Prémio de Espana at the Jerez circuit has started in fine weather, but somewhat changeable conditions. In addition, the teams and riders of the electric bike series had to cope with changed grip conditions than during the final pre-season testing earlier this month. However, these circumstances hardly managed to upset Dominique Aegerter. It took only four laps for the 30-year-old Swiss rider to set a hot lap time, but he was unable to improve on it due in part to of a crash close to the end of FP1. In the second free practice of the day, only a few riders managed to improve on their time from the first session. In the meantime, Aegerter has put the crash well away.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Energica), FP1: P2 - 1´48.134 (4/6) / FP2: P5 - 1´48.806 (9/9):

"I am satisfied, even if the feeling is not as good as during our test here two weeks ago. However, the track conditions have changed and there is less grip. This is well seen by the significantly slower lap times. Despite all many practice sessions before our FP2, the situation hardly improved in the afternoon. In addition, a red flag after a crash took us a little out of rhythm. Nevertheless, it was a good start to the weekend. We just used one front tyre during both sessions. So, this savings should be beneficial for the remaining weekend, as we are able to put in a fresh tyre at the front and rear every time."

"Despite a small slip during the first free practice session, we finished second in the combined timesheet of today. The gap to Granado is incredibly close again. Fortunately, nothing happened to me when I fell, whereas the bike was a bit damaged. But my crew did a super job and fixed it right in time. In the second session my bike worked perfectly again. Although we were not at the front, we were good in terms of pace again. I think it will be a little bit easier on Sunday morning during the race, when ground temperatures will not be as hot as in the afternoon. But before that, we will set a proper attack in tomorrow’s E-Pole."
