2021/05/01 - FIM MotoE™ World Cup: Gran Prémio de Espana / QP Report

Season start from second row

Dominique Aegerter did not quite manage to match his impressive winter test performances so far this weekend at the opening round of this year's FIM MotoE™ World Cup.

Despite less than perfect E-Pole lap at the first race of the season, Dominique Aegerter should not be left off the list of the closest title contenders just yet. Although he will have to start from the second row of the grid on Sunday, he is also likely to win the opening race in Jerez de la Frontera. The experienced 30-year-old rider from Switzerland blames changed track and weather conditions compared to the pre-season tests for the fact that he has been lacked that little bit to the fierce end of the top so far this weekend.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Energica), Grid position 4 - 1´48.373:

"I do not think I need to mention that I am a little disappointed not to have made it into the front row of the starting grid. Already on Friday, we had different conditions than at the test two weeks ago. In addition, the schedule with just a few practice sessions is not so much helpful, during which you also have with even times six, seven not much time to set up the bike. In addition, the difference in terms of temperature between practices with a session in the cool morning and the second in the afternoon, where the temperatures are much warmer, also play a role. But that is the truth for all other teams and riders, too."

"Still, we are running a bit behind our strong preseason form. We have to work hard to get back to that level immediately. But we may not get crazy ourselves, because tomorrow morning the conditions will be different again. I think our setting works much better with cooler temperatures. Of course, we are facing at a bit of a disadvantage because we have to start from fourth in second row on the grid. But I gained a lot of experience last year and therefore I know exactly what I have to do. Full throttle in every lap will definitely be the best way to finish the race as well as possible and as far towards the front as possible."
