2021/06/03 - FIM MotoE™ World Cup: Gran Premi de Catalunya / Preview

New territory for MotoE™ in Barcelona

After last Sunday's sensational victory in Supersport race in Estoril, Dominique Aegerter switches back to his MotoE™ bike this weekend.

The 30-year-old Dominique Aegerter has been in virtually constant action since the beginning of May, changing his race bike almost weekly. After a brilliant start to the season in the Supersport World Championship most recently in Aragón and Estoril, things continue for the experienced Swiss rider in the next few days in Barcelona in the electric bike racing series. Aegerter comes to the recently slightly rebuilt Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in third place overall, level on points with the second placed rider. Aegerter has tried to overcome the sad news of the death of his young compatriot Jason Dupasquier after a fatal crash in qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix, surrounded by his family.

Due to the schedule clash with Formula1 this weekend, the start time for the third race of the season is set for 16:00 CEST this Sunday.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Energica):

"For a few weeks now, my schedule has been going on from one event to the next. From Estoril, I went almost straight to Barcelona for round three in MotoE. The omens are set for high tension, as no MotoE bike has ever raced at the Circuit de Catalunya before. But of course, I know Barcelona from many years racing in Moto2 and 125cc class. In addition, I have been there several times after the slight modification around turn ten last winter. On one occasion it was the official Supersport test, while the other time I took the opportunity riding at track days there with my private R6."

"With the MotoE bike, however, it promises to be an interesting weekend. No one knows which gear ratio will fit best, as well as the tyres will play a role. The weather is supposed to stay nice the next few days and I am well prepared as always. After the great weekend in the Supersport World Championship in Estoril, I hardly can wait to face the next task. But before that I would like to express my condolences once again to the family, the team and all the friends of Jason Dupasquier. The last few days have not been easy to block out this terrible event. But now I am looking forward to the reunion with Gero and Joan and the whole Intact team. The cohesion will help us to put the focus back on the essentials."
