2021/06/05 - FIM MotoE™ World Cup: Gran Premi de Catalunya / E-Pole

Impressive return to front row

After initial difficulties, Dominique Aegerter caught up in leaps and bounds in qualifying for third spot on the starting grid with a hot E-Pole lap on Saturday afternoon.

Unlike last time three weeks ago in Le Mans, when the starting grid was determined in a 15-minute session due to rainy weather conditions, this time all participants in the electric bike series were able to focus on an exciting E-Pole this afternoon. In this format, each rider has just one flying lap in which everything has to be on the right point.

After a solid third free practice session, which Dominique Aegerter finished seventh by just 0.4 seconds and in doing so, he was able to further improve his feelings for the MotoE bike, the 30-year-old Swiss was relaxed about the time attack. With an almost perfect lap, he also easily made it onto the front row of the grid.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Energica), Startplatz 3 - 1´50.719:

"I am incredibly happy about this front row start. Finally, once again, I have no one in front of me. Today's E-Pole was at the same time a big relief after we initially had issues to adapt to this track and lost a lot of time to the top guys. The change from the Supersport bike just a few days later to the MotoE machine was bigger than expected. In addition, it took the first session to gain experience with this bike at this track. Until FP2, however, we changed the bike a little bit, as well as I managed to adapt my riding style well myself."

"My team did a great job, as always. We stayed calm and so we improved with every session. This afternoon at the latest, I was at one with this bike again. The race will only last seven laps tomorrow. Therefore, it is important to have finished the E-Pole with the best possible result. The front row will certainly be a big help to be in the leading group right from the start and then to play a significant role in the battle for victory all the way to the finish. I will definitely give it my all tomorrow and fight doggedly all the way to the line."
