2021/06/06 - FIM MotoE™ World Cup: Gran Premi de Catalunya / Race

Second place to round up strong Barcelona weekend

In the debut race of the MotoE class at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Dominique Aegerter had victory within his grasp.

The 2021 Gran Premio de Catalunya was a welcome step back to normality. On Sunday, almost 20,000 spectators were on spot at the famous circuit located at the outskirts of Barcelona to experience exciting competitions live. Spurred by the good atmosphere in the grandstands, which had been missing for a long time, teams and riders gave their best in stable nice weather conditions.

At the third stop of the FIM MotoE™ World Cup, Dominique Aegerter wanted to take his long-overdue first win of the season today. Starting from second front row, the experienced 30-year-old Swiss rider immediately took the lead of the top-class field. However, due to a minor inattention two laps from the end, Aegerter missed his target after another strong performance overall this weekend.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Energica), P2 +0.531:

"I am really happy about the 20 points we won today. On the other hand, I am a little annoyed about a small mistake that took away my chance to win. But it was an interesting race right from the start, there were many fights for positions. It was already exciting at the start when the procedure was delayed a bit because a rider had to leave the grid. But I managed to stay focused every time and I was also prepared for anything at any time. I also wanted to stay in the lead for as many laps as possible. But when I was overtaken, I made this said mistake. From that point on, I just tried to defend second place. I managed that well. I realized that there were other riders closely following. So, on the last lap I tried to ride very cleverly instead of catching up and try to attack the leader because I was thinking a little bit about the championship."

"In any case, I am happy with my performance, and I also want to thank the whole Intact team for their great job. Again, they gave me a bike with which I was able fight for the podium. But foremost, it was very nice to have fans at the track again. I also saw some Swiss flags. That makes me happy that my compatriots also follow the MotoE class and cheer me. Today's second place is also a nice end to a difficult and sad week. I think we were all thinking of Jason Dupasquier this weekend and riding for him. Even though it was not easy at first, racing goes on and next week I face the next challenge competing in World Supersport at Misano."
