2021/07/23 - FIM Supersport World Championship: Dutch Round / FP Report

Fastest on Friday in Assen after the return from holidays

Dominique Aegerter made an almost perfect start to the weekend at the home race of his close to the TT Circuit based Ten Kate team.

In perfect conditions, Dominique Aegerter dominated the opening day at the World Championship round at the famous TT circuit in Assen almost at will. In the first free practice session this morning, the experienced 30-year-old rider from the canton of Bern was only pushed off the top spot on the timesheet at the last moment. A little later, however, Aegerter left no doubt in the second session of the day who wants to be the master of the ring this weekend. With a new WorldSSP all-time record, the current world championship leader stormed to fastest lap time of the day in the Netherlands.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha, Yamaha YZF R6), FP1: P2 - 1´37.549 / FP2: P1 - 1´37.274

"Today's start to the weekend was very pleasing at all. I think our bike is just as fast as it looks with this beautiful livery. Of course, our test here a few months ago was a help somehow to set fast lap times right away. So, the data we collected paid off because I always felt super comfortable with the bike. The temperatures were very stable today in the range between 25 to 30 degree which may also have been a help. During both sessions, we mainly worked with the tyres, both with the front tyre and also the options for the rear. This also required some setup changes. In FP1 I was second and, in the afternoon, I was able to turn the tables again with a new lap record."

"Therefore, things could not have gone better today, and it shows that we are already on a good way. But now we have to focus on tyre choice for the races although, the decision for qualifying has already been made. In any case, I want to finish Superpole at the very front. But after this Friday, the goal for the races is very clear: we definitely want to fight for victory here. It was a perfect day in every respect, if not only because of some fans along the track. Besides, it is a nice feeling to race in my favourite colours, which at the same time also reminds Ten Kate of her glory days."
