Dominique Aegerter hat sich am Sonntag mit einem starken dritten Platz beim Gastspiel des MotoE™ World Cup im steirischen Spielberg wieder ins Rennen um den Gesamtsieg gebracht.

Trotz ungünstiger Ausgangslage hat Dominique Aegerter im drittletzten Saisonrennen einmal mehr seine Kämpfernatur sehr eindrucksvoll zur Schau gestellt. Der achte Startplatz nach der samstägigen E-Pole war zum Einem ein Nachteil, während wechselhaftes Wetter am Nachmittag des Renntags zudem eine Rolle spielte. Ein kurzer Regenschauer vor dem Rennen erschwerte die Reifenwahl und Abstimmung des Elektro-Bikes.

Aegerter und seine erfahrene Technik-Crew des deutschen Dynavolt Intact GP Team behielten aber kühlen Kopf und setzten auf Trockenabstimmung. Aus der dritten Reihe kommend, erwischte der 30-jährige Schweizer einen guten Start und machte sich sofort auf die Verfolgung des Führenden Lukas Tulovic. Dabei konnte Aegerter aber seine ersten Verfolger, Eric Granado und Fermín Aldeguer, nicht abschütteln, sodass in der letzten Runde ein heftiger Schlagabtausch zwischen den Drei entstand. 

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Energica), P3 +1.145:

"Mit dem achten Startplatz hatten wir nicht die beste Ausgangsposition. Ausserdem hat es während des MotoGP-Rennens zu regnen begonnen. Daher sind wir mit Regenreifen in die Startaufstellung gegangen. In der Besichtigungsrunde war aber zu sehen, dass nur noch die letzte Kurve ein bisschen feucht ist. Also haben wir kurz vor dem Start auf Slicks gewechselt. Das war auch die richtige Entscheidung. Das Motorrad hat sich wunderbar angefühlt und ich war auf der Bremse sehr stark. Doch wegen der unsicheren Wetterlage wurde die Distanz auf fünf Runden verkürzt. Schade, weil ein, zwei Runden mehr wären für mich sicher von Vorteil gewesen."

"Es war also unheimlich wichtig einen guten Start zu haben und von Beginn an vorne mit dabei zu sein. Das ist mir auch super gelungen. Aber Lukas (Tulovic) hat einen noch besseren Start erwischt und konnte auch gleich ein Stück davonfahren. Ich habe mich trotzdem unglaublich angestrengt, ihn einzuholen, was ich aber nicht geschafft habe. So kam es in der letzten Runde zu einem Riesen-Fight mit Granado und Aldeguer. Am Ende bin ich mit dem dritten Platz zufrieden, weil ich vor Zaccone und Torres ins Ziel gekommen bin. In der Gesamtwertung liegen wir immer noch auf dem vierten Platz. Aber mir nur elf Punkten Rückstand auf den Führenden ist beim Finale im September in Misano noch alles offen. An Misano gibt es gute und schlechte Erinnerungen."

"Wir nehmen aber die guten mit, als wir dort vor einem Jahr das erste Rennen gewonnen haben. Auch dieses Mal wird es wieder zwei Rennen geben, eines am Samstag und das zweite am Sonntag. Ich bin bereit und freue mich schon auf ein spannendes MotoE-Finale in fünf Wochen. Zuvor aber ein grosser Dank an meine Crew und das gesamte Team. Sie haben einen super Job gemacht, sowie auch die richtige Entscheidung getroffen und das Bike hinsichtlich der geänderten Bedingungen perfekt abgestimmt. Mein Dank gilt aber auch allen Sponsoren und meiner Familie für ihre Unterstützung. Jetzt freue ich mich auf ein, zwei erholsame Tage zu Hause in der Schweiz, bevor es zu Wochenmitte nach Navarra geht. Dort werde ich in der Supersport-WM wieder versuchen, um Erfolge kämpfen."

After a determined ride to a strong third place at the MotoE™ World Cup’s visit to Spielberg, Dominique Aegerter put himself back in the fight for the overall win on Sunday.

In the third-last race of the season, Dominique Aegerter once again put his fighting nature on display very impressively in the third-last race of the season despite an unfavourable starting position. P8 on the starting gird after Saturday's E pole was a disadvantage on the one hand, while changeable weather this afternoon also played a role. A brief rain shower before the race made tyre selection and set-up of the electric bike more difficult.

However, Aegerter and his experienced technical crew from the German Dynavolt Intact GP team kept a cool head and went for a dry set-up. Coming from the third row, the 30-year-old Swiss made a good start and immediately set off in pursuit of leader Lukas Tulovic. However, Aegerter was unable to shake off his first pursuers, Eric Granado and Fermín Aldeguer, so that a fierce battle ensued between the three in the final lap. 

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Energica), P3 +1.145:

"With eighth place on the grid, we did not have the best starting position. In addition, it started to rain during the MotoGP race. Therefore, we went to the grid with rain tyres. But on the sighting lap we could see that only the last corner was still a bit damp. So, we changed to slicks shortly before the start. That was also the right decision. The bike felt wonderful, and I was very strong at braking. But because of the uncertain weather conditions, the distance was shortened to five laps. It's a shame, because one or two laps more would certainly have been played in my hands."

"So, it was incredibly important to get off a good start and be amongst the front runners right from the start. I also managed to do that very well. But Lukas (Tulovic) got off an even better start and was able to pull away right away. Nevertheless, I made an incredible effort to catch up with him, but I did not manage it. Therefore, in the last lap there was a huge fight with Granado and Aldeguer. In the end I am happy with third place because I finished ahead of Zaccone and Torres. In the overall standings we are still in fourth place. But with only eleven points behind the leader, everything is still open at the finale in Misano in September. There are good and bad memories of Misano."

"But we take the good ones with us when we won the first race a year ago. This time will be two races again, one on Saturday and the second on Sunday. I am ready and looking forward to an exciting MotoE finale in five weeks. But before that, a big thanks to my crew and the whole team. They did a great job, and they also made the right decision and tuned the bike perfectly with regard to the changed conditions. I would also like to thank all my sponsors and my family for their support. Now I am looking forward to one or two relaxing days at home in Switzerland before I head off to Navarra in the middle of the week. There I will try again to fight for success in the Supersport World Championship."
