On Friday afternoon, Dominique Aegerter played cat and mouse with his opponents during free practice two at round six of the Supersport World Championship in Navarra.

Second overall at the opening day of practice at the series’ meeting at the Circuito de Navarra in the northwest of Spain, which was only added to the World Championship calendar at very short notice, was certainly a successful debut for Dominique Aegerter and his Dutch Ten Kate Yamaha team to welcome a new sponsor to their racing family. The logo of Aegerter's leather manufacturer IXS will be very present at his race bike from now on.

In addition, Friday could not have gone better for the 30-year-old professional racer from the canton of Bern. After this morning’s FP1, the Yamaha rider only had to give way to the Spaniard Manuel Gonzales with a margin of a gap. In the second session of the weekend at 35 degrees and more Aegerter performed a mammoth program, as he reeled off a race simulation with both available tyre compounds and virtually as a bonus, he set the best time at the hot Spanish surface.

"Our test two months ago was certainly some help in that we were able to get the weekend off to a good start this morning despite a dirty and dusty track out there though, lap times were already very fast at all. In the afternoon, we mainly dealt with the different tyre compounds allocated for this weekend. Although it was significantly hotter, with track temperatures climbing up to over 50 degrees, the track was in a slightly better condition. But it was still incredibly difficult and exhausting. Nevertheless, we managed to cover a race distance on both tyre options. That was hugely important, as we now have a very clear idea of which tyre to go for tomorrow afternoon's race."

"The weather situation will not change much over the next few days. It remains hot and therefore we have done an incredible amount today in terms of preparation for the races. After making minor changes to the bike, we have been steadily improving and our pace is really very strong. To have finished the second session as fastest rider out on track and even more with a big gap to the following riders gives confidence. At the end of the day, we ended up P2 in the combined timesheet. So, it was generally a pleasing start to the weekend. Furthermore, we are happy to welcome IXS as an event sponsor who will support us not only here but also for the remaining the races."
