2022/03/09 - FIM MotoE™ World Cup 2022: First off. Test

Fastest at first MotoE™ showdown

Dominique Aegerter has started his pre-season preparations for the electric bike series on a high note with the fastest time after first three days testing in Jerez.

Together with German Dynavolt Intact GP team, 31-year-old Dominique Aegerter is about to start his third campaign in MotoE™ World Cup. In changeable weather over the past three days at the southern Spanish circuit of Jerez de la Frontera, Aegerter made a perfect start to the new season by setting fastest lap time on Monday. Weather conditions on the first day, however, were also have been the best throughout the test.

After a rainy Tuesday, only a few riders managed to improve their lap times on Wednesday, the final day, so that Aegerter's Monday best marker was still fastest lap time at the end of the test. The motorcycle racing professional from the canton of Bern was still unable to find the innovations announced in the run-up to the test, with a 15 kg lighter battery, during these three days. Also, with regard to the range of the available energy, no clear progress was made with eight laps.

For Aegerter, therefore, the focus was on regaining the feeling for this race bike, as well as doing a lot of basic set-up work with his new crew, led by South Tyrolean Patrick Mellauner and Spaniard Joan Thomas Salva as mechanics, which was done successfully throughout.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Energica):

"Our first test went very well. We were up at the front in every session, no matter what the conditions were. That makes me very confident about the preparation for the MotoE season. On Monday, conditions were at its best and we finished the opening day on top of the timesheets. This lap time also survived the last day. So, I am pleased to have finished the first test as fastest overall. However, I only did three laps twice at the end on the final day. Initially, the track was still wet in some corners this morning and dry on the straights. That was why we skipped this session. A simulation of Q1 and Q2 should have taken place at midday. But due to a technical defect on a motorcycle, this trail has been cancelled."

"It was not until later in the afternoon that we finally got to out on track to do halfway reasonably today, although this session also had to be stopped early. I am a bit upset that I was not able to improve my lap time. We were 0.1 seconds off Jordi Torres, which meant P3. But we tried a few things on the bike in those two exits, which felt a little different. Much more important was that we were always placed in the leading group, and I was able to quickly build up a good feeling with my new crew. On Wednesday, team boss Jürgen Lingg paid us a brief visit for which I also was very pleased about that. From a technical point of view, there have been some innovations, but I cannot really feel them yet. On the one hand, this concerns the lighter battery and a new rear tyre from Michelin."

"The bike is still very heavy, there have been many crashes. I hope for the sake of all the riders who crashed on these three days that they did not seriously injure themselves. Therefore, in half-wet track conditions on Tuesday afternoon, I did not take unnecessary risks. In the two previous practice sessions the track was completely wet, and I was able to build up a good feeling in the rain. In the dry sessions it was absolutely no big task to get used to this race bike again. I will now continue my preparations for the season in Barcelona before heading to Aragón next week for the first Supersport test. I am really looking forward to the reunion with the Ten Kate team. We have a second MotoE test at the end of April before the World Cup starts in Jerez on the first weekend in May. So far, we are on schedule. I would like to thank the Intact team again for their confidence in me. I will give my maximum so that we finish this season in the best possible way."
