2022/04/11 - FIM MotoE™ World Cup - 2ndJerez Test / Day one

MotoE™ season preparations to enter final stages

On Sunday still spectacular race winner at the Supersport World Championship opener at MotoLand Aragón, on Monday already back on the road in the electric bike series: Dominique Aegerter changes his racing machines like in flight.

The second official tests for the 2022 FIM MotoE™ World Cup began on Monday in Jerez de la Frontera, southern Spain, in dry weather but windy conditions. Dominique Aergerter arrived on Sunday late evening coming from Aragón, where the 31-year-old all-rounder in motorcycle road racing had spent no less than five days riding the 600cc Supersport bike last week.

Unlike previous occasions, Aegerter experienced unfamiliar changeover difficulties at the start of the three-day test at the Circuito de Jerez. Aegerter was credited with a 1'49.5 at the end of the day. This left him a good half-second off the day's best marker and he finished Monday around tenth place.

The second official MotoE test will continue Tuesday and Wednesday.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Energica):

"Actually, this was a flying move over from the Supersport Yamaha to the MotoE bike. On Sunday afternoon I went by car to Madrid and from there I flew to Jerez in the evening. After a busy week starting with the two-day test and then the first race weekend in the Supersport World Championship, I would have been nice to getting a little bit more sleep last night. But it is what it is and today there were three MotoE sessions on the schedule. Not much has happened since the first official test with the electric bike in March. The Energica technicians are still talking about a 15-kilogram lighter energy unit, but that is hardly noticeable. For me, there is still no difference to last year's bike. In addition, the new unit consumes more power than its predecessor. We are used to be able to do eight or nine laps in a row, but now it is just seven or eight at the most. That is certainly not the progress you are expecting."

"The conditions were a bit windy today. Regardless of that, I found the transition to the MotoE bike less easy this time. Normally that is not a thing for me. But today I found it a bit more difficult, as well as I was not quite as fast as usual at all. The lap times were generally very slow as they were 1.8 seconds off the pace form last year. At the test a year ago, I did a 1'47.1. Today’s fastest lap time was a 1'48.9, while I set a 1'49.5. That is a little surprising. For that, the gaps were incredibly close. In the second and third sessions we worked on the geometry. For my feeling, however, we lost our direction a little. We need to correct that again on Tuesday, even though rainy weather is forecast."
