2022/04/30 - FIM MotoE™ World Cup 2022: Gran Premio de Espana / Saturday - Race 1

MotoE™ season gets underway with another podium

In a thrilling opening race of the electric bike series on Saturday in Jerez, Dominique Aegerter got stronger with every lap until he finally saw the chequered flag in second place.

Starting from the second row of the grid in fifth place, Dominique Aegerter initially had difficulties overtaking those riders in front of him. After many changes of positions in the first few laps, the 31-year-old Swiss started his race to catch up shortly after the halfway mark and snatched up one rival after another. After eight laps, Aegerter was beaten only by Brazilian Eric Granado.

Starting this season, two races will be held on each Cup race weekend. The second race in Jerez will start on Sunday afternoon at 15:30 CET. The race will be streamed live on SRF 2.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Energica)
Grid position: P5 / Race 1: P2 +0.696

"Today's second place is a strong start to the new championship for us. The 20 points for it are very important. I got well away at the start but could not attack in the first corners. It was almost impossible to overtake other riders. That is why I dropped down to seventh position in the first lap. After that, it was not easy to make up positions in the first few laps. My opponents were pushing like crazy, as well as they had a good speed. There were not many opportunities to overtake. But three laps before the end I said to myself, okay, now I have to attack to get to the front and, if possible, fighting for victory. At the line I crossed in second place. That is certainly not bad considering how the race went."

"We have worked very hard for this, and my Dynavolt Intact GP team has given me a good bike. I am happy that we have a second race on Sunday where we will try to be at the front again. My start to this season has been super successful so far. In addition to the victories in Supersport World Championship, I have now clinched another podium with today’s second place. It is also incredibly nice to have spectators back at the track, plus so many like here in Jerez, who wait until 05:00pm to cheer us. A big thank you to them, but also to my team and all the sponsors who support us."
