2022/05/28 - FIM MotoE™ World Cup 2022: Gran Premio d'Italia / Saturday - Race 1

Fantastic second MotoE™ victory in a row

After setting fastest lap times during each Friday’s practice sessions, Dominique Aegerter was able to celebrate another victory in race one of the weekend in Italy on Saturday - and he did rightly so.

Dominique Aegerter is also becoming a feared opponent for his rivals in MotoE™ World Cup. Starting the race from the top spot on the starting grid, the 31-year-old Swiss rider got off to a good start but was edged out by Italian rider Kevin Zannoni for the hole-shot. A few changes of direction later, the Energica machine with the bright yellow starting number 77 took the lead for the first time. From this point on, the fifth race of the E-Bike Series season became a thriller. Constant changes of position thrilled the many spectators who had stayed at the Mugello track despite changeable weather. Aegerter's race-deciding manoeuvre kept none of the fans on the edge of their seats.

The second race of the race weekend in the heart of Tuscany will start on Sunday afternoon at 15:30 CET. Swiss broadcaster SRF will show the race via live stream, starting ten minutes before the start.

Grid position: Pole / Race 1: Winner

"This second win in a row gives me a fantastic feeling. After seven victories in Supersport World Championship and now twice in MotoE, I almost know nothing else than being on top of the podium. But I had to work hard for today's victory, it was an incredibly exciting race. Mugello is always great fun to ride here and today we were lucky with the weather. Before the race we only had one lap on rain tyres. But five minutes before the start we switched to slicks, even though we did not know exactly what the track conditions would be like. Fortunately, it was dry everywhere and it stayed that way."

"The battle over the entire distance could not have been nicer. Especially along the main straight, the slipstream duels were relentless. It was impossible to tactic in any way. All that counted was to give the maximum on every lap. At the start of the last lap, I managed a super strong manoeuvre in turn one. I was able to brake very late, much later than the others, and overtook three or four riders at once. It was a bit crazy, but it worked out perfectly. I cannot mention it enough, but Mugello is a great place for racing. I am happy that many Swiss fans came this weekend and many Italian spectators stayed at the circuit until the end of the day to watch and cheer us on. Tomorrow, we start again from pole position, and I will give everything again to deliver another strong performance, if possible, also to fight for the victory again."
