2022/06/10 - FIM Supersport World Championship 2022: Emiglia-Romagna Round / Friday's FP Report

Strong race pace inspires confidence

Dominique Aegerter had to settle for third place after Friday's free practice session in Misano. But the 31-year-old Swiss rider is not deterred by this.

The paddock in Supersport World Championship was greeted by bad weather on Thursday at the Italian Adriatic coastline in Misano. However, the rain front moved off last night, so that Friday at round four of the season remained dry apart from a few isolated drops.

Current champion Dominique Aegerter had no trouble getting used to the Yamaha YZF R6 of his Dutch Ten Kate team right away after a weekend off, as he immediately set the fastest lap times in FP1. However, in the final moments of the session he was edged out to second place by Italian rider Stefano Manzi.

It was no different in the second session of the day. Aegerter immediately put himself back in front of the competition whilst his second exit was mainly geared towards the first race on Saturday afternoon and in the process, he improved his lap time minimally compared to this morning, before being trumped by local heroes Nicola Bulega and Manzi at the end.

The first race of the weekend will start on Saturday afternoon at 15:15 CET. As usual, there will be a live stream on ServusTV.com. The starting grid will be determined in Superpole from 10:25 to 10:45 CET.

FP1: P2 - 1´38.219 / FP2: P3 - 1´38.049

"Although the weather was a bit unusual until noon today, I am happy to be back here and continue the work with the Ten Kate team. During FP1 this morning, it was still quite cool in terms of asphalt temperatures. But our lap times were very fast from the start, so it was a good start to the weekend. When the sun came out in the afternoon, I was able to improve my lap time, but not as much as expected. Still, we were competitive because we were very strong in our race simulation."

"On the other hand, we were missing a few tenths on the one fast lap. I think the two Italians at the front have a bit of an advantage because they tested here in the winter. So, they not only know the track perfectly. But tomorrow is Superpole, and then again in the morning when it is cooler. Our goal is to get on the first two rows of the grid so that we are in a good position for the race. The points will not be awarded until Saturday afternoon and race pace will be crucial, although a very hot race is expected."
