2022/06/24 - FIM MotoE™ World Cup 2022: TT Assen / Friday - Free practice and qualifying

Brilliant pole position on a strange Friday in Assen

Although Dominique Aegerter didn't really get going in the morning, the current overall leader of the electric bike series will again tackle the races in the Netherlands from the best starting position.

Day one of practice at the fourth meeting of the season in MotoE™ World Cup had the typical weather for Assen. After beautiful weather on the previous days with hot temperatures, dark skies appeared early in the morning, bringing thunderstorms and partly heavy rain showers to the north of the Netherlands. After a rainy FP1, the second free practice had to be cancelled due to heavy rain. For teams and riders, therefore, it was straight into qualifying in the afternoon.

Dominique Aegerter, who recently shone in Mugello with pole position, a victory and a second place, had an unusually difficult time on a rain-soaked track. The cancellation of the second free practice was initially a bitter pill to swallow. But in the afternoon, as conditions steadily improved, his crew found the near-perfect set-up for Assen's unique fast and flowing track. With a great time in Q1, Aegerter secured his spot for Q2 as fastest, where he improved his lap time by another half a second to seal his second pole position in a row.

The first race of the weekend will be broadcast live on television by SRFzwei on Saturday afternoon. The broadcast will begin ten minutes before the start.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Energica)
Grid position: Pole - 1´43.643 (4/5)

"I am overjoyed to start from pole position this Saturday and Sunday again. I know Assen like the back of my hand and two months ago I already had a very successful weekend here with two wins and pole position in Supersport World Championship. So, I was really looking forward to returning to the TT Circuit where I like its layout and the environment, as well as the good atmosphere because of the many fans at the grandstands. But the weekend started very strangely. The first practice was completely soaked though, grip level was good. After FP1 I was only in twelfth, which was a very strange feeling. But I was sure that I could improve a lot in FP2. But because of the heavy rain, this session was cancelled without replacement. So, I had to go into Q1, which was certainly no disadvantage in terms of track time in dry conditions."

"Besides, it was a help with regard to the races and we were able to make good use of the short break between the two qualifying heats. I told my crew a few change requests, which they implemented perfectly. My crew chief Patrick Mellauner understood exactly what I needed to go even faster and the few clicks to the bike’s set-up paid off in full. I feel ready to fight for another podium or even for victory on Saturday and I would like to put in another great show for the fans out there and the viewers in front of the TV. However, my top priority is to maintain our lead in the points table. It would be nice if we manage it to further increase."
