2022/12/13 - FIM Superbike World Championship 2023: Test Jerez - Tuesday

Rainy start to new stage of career

Dominique Aegerter's first familiarization with the Yamaha superbike was marred by rainy weather on Tuesday in Jerez.

The weather had no mercy to the WSBK rookie this Tuesday as Dominique Aegerter began his new chapter in his career. In changeable conditions, sometimes it rained harder, sometimes less, the conditions for a smooth transition to the 1000cc Yamaha R1 were somewhat difficult.

Aegerter and his crew from the GRT Yamaha team of former racer Mirko Giansanti nevertheless did not let the day go to waste, because the main thing was to get to know each other in terms of working methods.

"For my first day of testing with the Yamaha superbike, I would have liked better weather. Before we started our work, it was difficult to predict how the situation would develop for the day. That is why we opted for the half-day option. This meant that we were only allowed to go out on track in a precisely coordinated time window. In this one, we completed 47 laps. The track was always wet, and it was also very windy. Fortunately, it was not too cold. But the conditions were very strange at all times. So, it is difficult to describe the first impressions of the bike, which is new to me, because it was not easy to get a real feeling for it."

"We mainly tweaked the seating position, tried different mappings and also tried a bit to find a basic setup. It was also good for me to get to know the electronics with all their buttons on the handlebars. This also included the first feeling out with my new crew. In that respect it was an interesting day to understand how they work and how I react to changes. Other than that, it was important to see that everything was working as it should. Hopefully the weather will be better tomorrow so we can get some data and experience in the dry as well. So far, though, I am very happy with how I have been welcomed in this team. We are already well on the way to becoming a family. And I am also very happy that I am able to do my first superbike test before Christmas."
