The 35-year-old Swiss rider failed the usual medical check on Thursday, which is mandatory after a recent operation, and will therefore unfortunately miss the season’s finale of the FIM Superbike World Championship in southern Spain.

Dominique Aegerter suffered a fracture of the fifth metacarpal bone in his right hand in a training accident last week. Just two days later, he underwent surgery at the Hirslanden Salem Hospital in Bern. The procedure went without complications, giving the Yamaha rider quiet hopes of ending the season on a high note with a strong performance at the Circuito de Jerez this weekend. However, the race doctors considered the risk too great. Aegerter was banned from starting at Jerez.

«Unfortunately, I will not be able to take part in this weekend’s last races of the season. The race doctor has declared me unfit because the fracture is still too fresh. The operation was only last Thursday, and my hand is still a bit swollen. The risk would be too great, they said. It pains me greatly to have to miss the last race weekend, especially because of the good memories I have of Jerez. I feel sorry for my team, all the sponsors, and the fans. I would have liked to end the season differently.»
