On Saturday afternoon in Misano, for Dominique Aegerter ended somewhat of a longer dry spell, finishing 13th in Race 1 of the Emilia-Romagna Round at the legendary racetrack near the popular vacation area of Rimini on Italy’s Adriatic coastline.
By Saturday at the latest, summer had arrived in Emilia-Romagna, in the heart of Italy, bringing with it hot conditions. With air temperatures reaching 30 degrees and track temperatures exceeding 50 degrees, the 18 laps distance of the first race of round seven of this year’s FIM Supersport World Championship were no walk in the park for the riders.
Dominique Aegerter, who had to start from 18th place on the sixth row of the grid, got off to a good start and quickly caught up to the riders ahead of him who were battling for the final points positions. On the final lap, the 35-year-old Kawasaki rider dug deep to catch up to his teammate Jeremy Alcoba before the finish line, after Alcoba had followed him like a shadow for many laps and passed Aegerter at the start of the last lap.
Going into the last corner, Aegerter managed to catch up to the Spaniard again. Three points in his 400th World Championship race — a milestone in his long career — are cause for a small celebration. This tally includes all World Championship classes, ranging from 125cc class through Moto2™ and MotoE™, the Endurance World Championship, Supersport World Championship, and up to World Superbike.

Grid position 18 / Race 1: P13
«I’m glad to finally be back in the points. In this heat, though, it was a real challenge; 13th place and three points are a small reward for that. The team did a good job with the bike, and I felt pretty comfortable, even though we were at the limit in every corner. So, we’ll carefully analyse the data and hopefully improve a bit more for tomorrow’s warm-up. I gave it my all in the race, but our starting position really doesn’t help us achieve better results. We’re working very hard as a team, and both I and my crew have given it our all to find something that makes us faster. Today I did my 400th race in a World Championship, so it’s nice to have something to celebrate. I think that’s an achievement I can be a bit proud of. A big thank you to all my supporters who always help me, as well as to all my sponsors, teams, and the bike I’ve been able to ride throughout my career. Many thanks also to all the fans who came to Misano. I’m looking forward to racing here again tomorrow at this fantastic venue.»
