For the beginning of the series’ annual channel crossing for its visit to the historic Donington Park Circuit in England, Dominique Aegerter scored a small victory when his name briefly topped the timesheets during Free Practice 1. However, his Friday results are raising hopes for further improvement in his performance.
 
As it was the case for the previous World Championship rounds in Aragon at the end of May and in Misano in mid of June, hot midsummer temperatures set the tone for the start of round eight round England’s East Midlands region.

Two weeks ago, Dominique Aegerter and his Kawasaki WorldSSP Team conducted a test at the Cremona Circuit in Italy under similar conditions, which proved to be very productive despite extremely hot circumstances. During late Friday morning’s FP, it became clear that the insights gained during this test are leading to progress in the further development of the Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R-636.

After 40 minutes of practice, Aegerter was in 12th place, just under half a second behind the fastest time. During the afternoon’s time attack for the best starting positions, track temperature rose up to over 40 degrees. Nevertheless, the 35-year-old Swiss rider was 0.3 seconds faster on his fastest lap than he had been just a few hours earlier under slightly cooler conditions. Although he narrowly missed his personal goal of a starting position in the first three rows, he is looking forward with confidence to the weekend’s first race on Saturday afternoon.

«Even though it was incredibly hot, I enjoyed a lot riding again at this beautiful track though, above of all it was a positive Friday because we took a step forward. This morning, I was in first place at one point, which was a huge motivational boost for everyone on the team. It was good for everyone to start the weekend that way. In the end, I finished in P12. In Superpole, we narrowly missed a spot in the top ten, but ended up in 13th place, just with a small gap the top five. Btw, congratulations to Jeremy Alcoba, who did a great Superpole this afternoon and proved to be an outstanding team player as we tried to help each other. However, I was riding at the limit, so hopefully we can work well this evening to find those last two or three tenths of a second. If we can do that, it should help us finish tomorrow’s race in the top ten with a strong performance.»
