For the 35-year-old racer from the canton of Bern, the first day of racing at this year's Supersport World Championship round nine came to an end with a bitter disappointment.

Dominique Aegerter has had more successful days in his mind at his «almost»” home race at the Magny-Cours circuit in neighbouring France. After a difficult beginning on Friday morning, the professional athlete qualified for the fifth row of the grid in Superpole.

From there, Aegerter got off to a decent start early Saturday afternoon in the first race of the weekend. The Kawasaki rider moved up one position and was in 13th place after the opening lap. But it soon became clear that he couldn't pick up the pace and was easy prey for the other competitors.

The ambitious racer and his crew from the Kawasaki WorldSSP Team now have a long evening ahead of them, analysing the data very precise in order to improve their situation for Sunday.

«Race 1 went quite differently than we had imagined. Finishing in 17th place meant we missed out on points. That’s very disappointing. All I can say is that I’m sorry for the entire team and our sponsors. Of course, that goes for all the fans who travelled to Magny-Cours this weekend as well. I gave it my all throughout the entire distance, but despite my best efforts, my lap times didn’t get any faster. We’re going through hard times right now, but we’re working hard as a team to find a solution that gives me a slightly better feeling with the bike. Unfortunately, we haven’t succeeded yet, but we won’t give up and will keep working on it. Saturday is done, but I’m highly motivated to put in my 100 percent again tomorrow and turn things around. I hope we can score some points or even make it into the top ten. I believe in our project!»
