2026/10/18 - FIM Supersport World Championship 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣6️⃣: Spanish Round / Sunday's Race 2️⃣

A sensational end to the season, crowned with second place in super-crowded Jerez

In Sunday's last race of the season, Dominique Aegerter proved that he is far from being past his prime time. Together with his team mate Jeremy Alcoba, he celebrated with great exuberance a fantastic one-two for their Kawasaki WorldSSP Team.

What had already become apparent on Friday, and was confirmed by a fifth place in the weekend’s Race 1 on Saturday afternoon, continued seamlessly on Sunday during the last race of this year’s Supersport World Championship. With his first podium finish this year, Dominique Aegerter made his way back to the top of this highly competitive class.

Based on the order of the fastest lap times from Race 1, 35-year-old Aegerter had to start Sunday's race from P7 on the grid on row three. Coming from there, he got off to a better launch than he had 24 hours ago. Aegerter was able to hold his position in the first few sectors of the opening lap but dropped back two places a lap later.

The experienced racer from the canton of Bern quickly made up for lost ground and, from that point on, charged forward at breakneck speed. In what was a fiercely contested race, which was marked by numerous passing manoeuvres, Aegerter was clearly on track for a podium finish starting on lap seven. But he apparently wasn’t satisfied with that, because about halfway point of the race, originally scheduled for 17 laps, he briefly took the lead, and just a few laps later, Dominique Aegerter was back again at the very fierce end of the pack.

On lap twelve, he was overtaken by his teammate Jeremy Alcoba, before the race was red flagged shortly afterwards due to another rider crashing in Turn 8. Since two-thirds of the distance had already been completed at that point, the race was declared finished and Aegerter was awarded second place.

The race weekend in Jerez also marks the end of the partnership with Kawasaki WorldSSP Team. With his unbridled fighting spirit and determination, Aegerter helped that he and his crew got back on track for the season finale and finished the championship in 15th place.

Grid position 7 / Race 2: P2

«Let’s be honest, who would have thought that? It’s just unbelievable what we’ve achieved this weekend, we finished the season on the podium in today's last race. I’m over the moon about second place! We did a fantastic job, especially after going through a rough patch. Things were particularly tough around mid-season, when I started doubting myself. We struggled with a lot of problems and didn’t reach our goals. But to end this season today with a one-two finish for the Kawasaki WorldSSP Team, Jeremy won his third race of the year and finished third overall in the championship today, is just amazing. Congratulations to him and his crew, as well as to the entire Puccetti team, and a huge thank you to everyone for all their help and support throughout our time working together.»

«I haven’t signed a contract with a team for next year yet, but I think this weekend clearly showed that I still have a great speed, even if I’m not the youngest anymore. But I’m fast. So, once again, many thanks to everyone involved in this project with Kawasaki. But for now, let’s enjoy today’s success and celebrate it in style, and then I wish everyone a safe winter. Before that, however, I’d like to emphasize once again how great it is to have received this support from everyone, the fans and our sponsors, here in Jerez at the season's finale and to have been able to repay it with a strong result. I’m super happy, even though I would have liked to have ridden the fulll distance. Who knows how it would have turned out then. But most important, I hope everyone is doing okay after the crashes.»
